The client is a US-based financial firm with a footprint across 30 locations and an annual revenue of $100 billion. They sought a cloud-based application migration solution that would support their cost reduction objectives.

The client, managing a vast portfolio of applications, recognized the need to implement cost optimization strategies to reduce TCO, enhance application development capabilities, and improve application performance. By taking the applications to the cloud, they aimed to accelerate product launches, maintain a competitive edge, and elevate the customer experience.

Solution
Hexaware began the process by conducting a comprehensive assessment of the client’s large application portfolio. This evaluation covered business volume, application and infrastructure size, technology landscape, and software licensing costs. The insights gained from this assessment established a foundation for automation feasibility and identified the necessary remediations for containerization and replatforming. As a result, applications were segmented into migration waves based on their priority for application migration to cloud, ensuring a phased and systematic transition.
The client’s previous software environment relied on legacy Java and JEE platforms (EJB, JPA, and older versions of Spring and Hibernate), along with Oracle WebLogic and Oracle DB. To reduce the total cost of ownership, we replatformed technologies from WebLogic to JBoss and migrated from Oracle DB to PostgreSQL, leveraging open-source solutions.
We leveraged our proprietary cloud modernization platform, Amaze®, to determine the required remediations and the effort needed to transition applications from WebLogic to JBoss, migrate databases from Oracle to PostgreSQL, and containerize applications for enhanced scalability and efficiency.
The next phase involved refactoring code to support replatforming and containerization using Docker EE, enabling faster portability and seamless deployment across environments. Functional and performance test automation was implemented to ensure reliability and efficiency.
Finally, we integrated Docker EE with core CI/CD pipeline tools—including Jenkins, GitHub, and Maven—to streamline build and release management, enabling agile, in-sprint deployments to production.
