Unpacking Agility with tensai®

Digital IT Operations

October 3, 2024

For those who missed the first blog, we spoke about the genesis of tensai®, our multi-experience platform. To recap, tensai® presents three facets: Automation, Intelligence, and Platformization with our AI-first approach to the industry. We aim to transform an organization’s agility, efficiency, and experience dimensions. As promised, let’s talk about Agility today. Here are some of the industry challenges that Agility aims to address:

Agility Industry Challenges

Defining Agility: Continuous Release Orchestration

In our context, agility is about orchestrating the Continuous Integration, Delivery, and Deployment of applications while embedding shift-left principles, including security and compliance, at scale.

In simpler terms, agility focuses on scalable DevOps solutions with critical differentiators. While everyone talks about DevOps today, the real question is: Where do you stand on Extensibility, Scalability, Compliance, Observability, and Visibility?

Assessing the Maturity of Your Framework

Achieving agility and innovation in DevOps requires seamless integration, scalability, compliance, observability, and visibility. By addressing these key pillars, organizations can optimize their toolchains, enhance operational efficiency, and drive value.

Maturity of your framework

Extensibility

Do you have a standard data model that helps establish metadata uniformity to achieve two primary goals?

  1. Interoperability between tools through a Plug-and-Play (PnP) architecture.
  2. Publishing standardized data to the value stream management component, regardless of the toolchain.

Ask yourself: How seamless is your toolchain integration? Are your tools truly interoperable, or are you still facing silos?

Scalability

How adaptable is your DevOps solution? Can it scale across various technology stacks, environments, or application pipelines?

Consider this: Are you ready to grow and evolve with your business needs, or are you hitting roadblocks with each new scale-up?

Compliance

How early do you incorporate compliance checks against security and domain-specific standards like NIST 800-53, GDPR, or HIPAA?

Consider this: Are you integrating compliance from the start or scrambling to meet standards at the last minute? Early compliance can mitigate risks and streamline processes.

Observability

How mature are your observability practices?

Ask yourself: Are you just monitoring individual components or leveraging observability on user journeys with AI/ML to identify anomalies and implement self-healing mechanisms?

Visibility

Today, there’s a need for omniscient insights to gauge value and ROI. The old-school metrics? It’s time to kiss those dinosaurs goodbye and embrace DORA and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).

  • DORA Metrics: These help engineering teams assess the maturity of their delivery processes, from project to program to organization level. They focus on deployment frequency, lead time for changes, time to restore service, and change failure rate.
  • Flow Metrics: These provide a comprehensive view of value delivery, from concept to production. They focus on flow velocity, flow efficiency, flow time (also known as Time to Value), and flow load.

Connecting DORA and Flow metrics is critical. Lead Time for Changes helps track time from commit to deployment, while Flow Time measures from concept to delivery. This linkage helps identify idle times between phases, making DORA metrics more mature and actionable.

Ask yourself: Are you leveraging these omniscient value stream insights through a platform like tensai® to drive true agility and ROI in your organization?

Beyond Revenue: Understanding Value

Not all value translates directly to revenue. While commercial value is significant, features must also deliver customer efficiency, future, and market value. It’s about creating a holistic approach to value delivery.

Looking Ahead

Next, we’ll explore the dimension of Efficiency. Stay tuned as each blog builds on the last, leading to a comprehensive view of tensai®’s capabilities. And remember, we save the best for last—how GenAI integrates into this entire ecosystem!
